The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-door coupe has officially set a new lap record for the fastest luxury four-door vehicle at the iconic Nürburgring racecourse, knocking the previous lap record holder, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S, off its perch with a blistering lap time of 7:27.800.
Aside from its Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tyres and the aero package body kit, both of which are available as optional extras from the showroom, Mercedes-AMG managed to set the lap record in a stock GT 63 S, which makes the achievement even more impressive.
Conditions on the extremely demanding course in the Eifel also posed its own challenges, as some sections of the course had large wet spots, while the vehicle had to contend with outside temperatures of seven and asphalt temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius.
“The four-door coupé is comfortable and equipped with many intelligent safety features for everyday driving, and on the other hand it offers this extremely high level of driving dynamics and precision, which we have now been able to demonstrate once again on the demanding Nordschleife,” said Demian Schaffert, Mercedes-AMG development engineer, and two-time record-setting driver.
